Epitiro Research Reveals Australians Get 66% of Advertised Bandwidth

Sydney, Australia – Research by Epitiro, the broadband communications authority, reveals that speeds delivered by Australian ISPs can be significantly less than those advertised, in a ground-breaking report thought to be the first of its kind for Australia. The ‘Australia Internet Performance Index 2008’, based on the company’s ongoing research into ADSL and ADSL 2+ broadband services, monitored the performance of leading national ISPs in terms of actual customer experience.

The research covered popular broadband activities such as web surfing, downloading music and movies, VoIP telephone calling, internet gaming and watching streaming video. ISPs across the country were tested and Epitiro’s analysis revealed the following;

  • Australians receive on average 65.5% of advertised package speeds when downloading TCP data from national sources.
  • ADSL2+ packages achieved an average 53.7% of advertised package speed, below the national average
